emerald city

current obsession: anything & everything emerald green.

which i find odd, because i remember my mother being insanely obsessed with the same color          (i think she still is) and i hated it as a child. but now, i am finding it more sophisticated and i pretty much want everything in emerald. including angelina jolie’s versace gown.

go green or go home.

happy earth day everyone!

everyone is freaking out about how to “go green” and i have seen the most ridiculous things listed to help out people who don’t have the slightest clue as to how to try and be a little more conscious about our environment.

sure, take in your own grimey mug into starbucks instead of using their paper cups. drive less. don’t litter. go purchase (or rent) a prius. these are my thoughts…going green should be done in baby steps. trying to change your lifestyle completely over night makes you look a little crazy and no one likes crazy. start off with the small things such as, i don’t know using organic & natural skin care!

such as…YOUTHskin/care! believe it or not, yes, i actually have created/ formulated a line that is made purely with 100% certified organic ingredients that are good for you. i like to keep things simple, and although i myself have a hard time parting ways with cosmetic products that aren’t organic, i do like to keep things as natural as possible.

ps- the line is handmade with love by yours truly. show support! for the sake of earth day of course.

epsom/dead sea salt body soak (lavender)

“upon first pour of the salts in a warm bath, the lavender scent nearly instantly soothes.”
—l.a.’s the place

sugar/jojoba oil body scrub (italian blood orange)

“a fantastic scrub if you really want to go big with your exfoliation. it leaves your skin feeling tightened and hydrated.”
—ecosalon

organic/body wash (bergamot or lavender)

“the sophisticated packaging preserves ingredients from sunlight oxidation and deterioration. functional and stylish? you can’t get more beautiful than that.”

an open letter to mr. by-his-self-he-so-impressed

dear mr. west /yeezy,

first, i would like to start this letter off by congratulating you on a really great album!

now, there are some thing i need to get off my chest … this is your year at coachella to redeem yourself from the shit show you pulled a couple years back. just in case you forgot how it went down, let me refresh your memory.

unfortunately, you had a pretty terrible time slot. it was around 3pm- ish and well over 100 degrees. this alone could make anyone really irritable. i clearly remember the group of  friends i was with refusing to see you perform, and i was your cheerleader reminding them that, yes, you can be a pompous asshole and say stupid shit (the president hates black people) but you’ve rapped through the wire! you straight up had your jaw sealed shut! that’s bananas! you’re an artist!

so i personally was very excited to see your set. i can’t even recall which song(s) you played because you had soooo much to say that day. you’re a talker, mr. west. i get it. sometimes i don’t know when to shut the hell up; but i’m not being paid to play music. you are.

you proceeded to put on some random 80’s song and dance like molly ringwald. you mocked us “hipster” kids. well, guess what? those 30 thousand hipster kids saved up over 300 bucks to hear some music. don’t make fun of us! when it was all over with i still stood up for you, reminding others how hot it was, and making up stupid excuses on your behalf. but really you let me down. hell, even when you embarrassed the shit outta taylor swift i said, “he’s drunk—and her hair sucks. she’ll get over it.”

i am really hoping that this year you will stick to what it is that you do best: play music. so pull it together and play a great show. if it doesn’t go so well, you will officially have to accept my resignation as your unfaltering cheerleader.

coachella: do’s & don’ts. YOUTHstyle.

life has been a little crazy to say the least. so much, that i just kind of  got excited for coachella. i am usually counting down the days to the event, but this year it snuck up on me.

here are my do’s and don’ts for this year . i  have attended plenty of years to honestly say that i would take my own advice.

DO

plan ahead. highlight the bands you want to see with different colors and prioritize who you really want to see perform, and what not. get all ocd with this shit! i know i do! and with this year being sold out, this could help you tremendously.

wear spf. apply every couple hours and make sure it’s a teaspoon size amount. aint nothin cute about a crazy farmers tan, or skin cancer for that matter.

be picky about who you chose to hang out with for the 3 day event. this could make or break your experience. you really can learn a lot about someone in 3 days in over 100 degree weather…

look tan. without looking like you tanned. st tropez tanning foam or jergens natural glow lotion is the way to go.

get a pedicure, manicure, and your body waxed. just because it’s a music festival doesn’t mean you get to look like a complete beast.

keep count of the most ridiculous/awesome tattoo’s you see.

watch a band on the main stage from the beer gardens. less crowd, sound is great, and you’ll be enjoying a beverage that contains alcohol.

give kanye west a chance…stay tuned for my open letter to mr.west

have a good time and stay hydrated.

double fist churros, and don’t give a damn. chances are if you’re a girl, you’ve been on some kind of crazy coachella diet so you can look good in a pair of hot shorts. treat yourself to a churro and an icee.

be aware that there are over 30k people there…

DON’T

get a spray tan. everyone knows. you’re not fooling anyone giiirl.

buy drugs from people in the dance tent! haven’t you seen the youtube video of the naked wizard getting tased? that could be you!

wear heels. honeslty, after 7 years i still see this and don’t get it.

fall in love at coachella.

try to be cute. i mean don’t think your daily routine of makeup/hair will work out there. keep it simple, and remember that half of whatever you put on your face will have melted off by the second hour you are there.

wear a bikini. a bikini top – is ok.  just a bikini…no.

camp.

summer nails / brighten up

i know it’s hard to switch it up with nail polish shades, especially for me; when I always feel comfortable playing it safe with a bright red, or dark polish. nail polish colors for  this is summer are all about bright, iridescent, and glittery shades!

so take a chance and go a little crazy with a bolder brighter color than usual! after all, it isn’t permanent.  these are my top picks…for right now and are sure to catch some serious attention. in a good way.

go clear / review & giveaway!

having a proper skin care regimen is key. finding a product that works well with your skin type can be a little difficult.

with new products coming out daily, it’s so easy to want to try all of them, but not all are suitable for everyone’s needs. my suggestion is that you first visit a licensed esthetician or dermatologist for a consultation to determine exactly what skin type you have and which products will be beneficial, and which won’t. this will also help you gain orientation with ingredients, and what to look for when purchasing skin care products.

that being said, my skin has been problematic lately…a number of things can cause break outs, but i am used to having pretty clear skin and all of a sudden i noticed acne. naturally, i freaked out. knowing that my skin is very sensitive, i am very careful with products I would use to treat any form of acne. a lot of products that are geared towards acne-prone skin can actually end up doing more damage than good. some contain a high level of salicylic acid (kills bacteria) and benzoyl peroxide which can leave your skin extremely dry, and sometimes only have short lived results…(proactive).

i decided to try a new line called go clear. like most acne treating systems, it comes in 3 step process – cleanse, treat, and moisturize. this line contains no alcohol, no artificial dyes or fragrances, benzoyl peroxide, or sulfates and is oil free. it’s super easy to use and i saw results after 2 weeks. never was my skin left feeling overly dry, but was clear, and felt great!

the thing with skin care products that most people don’t get is that when trying any new product, results do not happen overnight. bottom line. the best way is to try the item for two weeks. if you don’t see results, then move on to another. but always give it two weeks of trial to notice full results.

i was really, really happy with my results from go clear, and they have been kind enough to offer a free trial kit (value of $50) to YOUTHblog readers! the winner will be selected at random,  and the contest ends on wednesday, march 2nd. please email kendramarie [at] youthskincare.com to enter!

YOUTHexclusive! / beach house @ the henry fonda music box

it’s no secret that over here at YOUTHblog we are huge fans of beach house.

last night i got an amazing opportunity to go see them at the henry fonda music box (one of my favorite venues in los angeles) and the show was truly unforgettable.

i have seen them numerous times, and not once have they let me down. they have perfected their on-stage performance to where it almost sounds too good. lead singer victoria le grand’s voice is dreamy and, let me tell you, that girl can whip her hair back and forth like no one’s business – watch out willow smith!

of course, my camera ran out of memory half way through the show…these things only happen to me. but my dear friend joe boo stepped in to help with his fancy iphone. we were able to record their encore (10 mile radio) which was amazing.

enjoy the pictures and video! the video is a little shaky but it was PACKED in there!

*special thanks to lindsay at goldenvoice

obsessed / into the gloss

there are so many freakin blogs out there. i used to have a list that i would check daily, but now i really haven’t had the time to do so considering i have my own blog, and a million other things to do.

but when i do get a chance, i really have about 3 i look at daily. my new favorite is into the gloss. i discovered this through lucky magazine, and, well, i am obsessed. the images are beautiful and it shows you an inside look into what beauty products fashion editors, models, etc. are using.

the layout is gorgeous, it’s just like looking at a glossy magazine without paying 10 bucks.

love, love this blog.
